It is hard to imagine a time when the motor car didn’t exist as today nearly every family has a motor car. Some families even have more than one which can create problems if the house they live in hasn’t got a garage or a drive to park them on. For this reason many people might concrete over their front garden and if they have room for a garage might choose a pre-fab concrete garage (Beton Fertiggarage) rather than a brick built one. Some people often find that a garage can provide additional storage space as well as having somewhere to put the car. Prefabricated Garages (Fertig garagen) are also popular as these can be easily erected and taken down if necessary. Garages are used for all sorts of reasons other than motor cars and for people who are interested in photography might use it as a dark room to develop their photographs.
Cameras and photography have revolutionised the way we live today and over the last few years many people prefer to take digital photographs. This is much easier than developing prints in a dark room as they can be stored on the computer and if required prints taken off. We all take such modern equipment for granted and would certainly be at a loss without it. The television made such a big difference to peoples lives and even as far back as the 1950’s not many people owned a television. Today televisions are part of our every day life and many children even have their own portable one in their bedroom. Television when it first came out had just one channel the BBC which was in black and white. Today there are so many channels if you miss a favourite programme; the chances are it will be shown again on another channel. Before the advent of the television people just had the wireless to listen to and seeing a film at the local picture house was a real treat. The first films to be shown at cinemas were silent movies in black and white with a pianist playing while the film was running. Many of these old films which featured characters like Charlie Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy have long been forgotten as films have progressed to include sound, colour and the very best in modern technology to create thrillers, musicals and epic films like Ben Hur, Superman and ET. Today even videos showing the latest films have been replaced by DVDs which can be bought very cheap from any supermarket.
However, in spite of all the modern digital cameras, some photographers still prefer to develop their photographs the old way and will buy a prefabricated garage not only for the purpose of parking the car but to use as a dark room for photography.
